That was my thought when I first began seeing these images in various places recently. Interestingly enough, they represent shortened URL codes that can be scanned with Smart Phones having a scanner app. Unfortunately for me, and others who have a phone that is "just a phone", it is another one of those great technologies that won't be used.
This is the QR code for the website
http://www.youtube.com/embed/nGeXdv-uPaw. Titled "She's Alive... Beautiful... Finite... Hurting..... Worth Dying For", it is a short, but powerful video of our beautiful earth and its current path to destruction. It is a memorial to several named individuals who have died in their efforts to preserve it.
I also at first thought what in the name of heaven was the image of the QR Code and then I started noticing them more in magazines, at stores but never bother to download on my smart phone the app until this assignment. I find it to be somewhat genius but I wonder how many people are actually paying attention or scanning to see what is behind the magic box. This reminds me of Cracker Jacks and their treasures inside the box. I loved the video!
ReplyDeleteThe link you posted for "She's Alive...." was great. I did try scanning the QR code you have posted with my phone, but the link failed.
ReplyDeleteI am in Sarasota as well, let me know if you want to meet and work.

I think these QR Codes are going to be something we will be seeing for a long time to come. Smartphones are likely to be the new normal as prices continue to drop. It probably doesn’t hurt that the wireless companies have higher profit margins on data plans than they do voice plans and the great majority of wireless companies require you to have a data plan as part of purchasing a smart phone. But then, that is the way of technology isn’t it? Innovate then saturate until we move on to the next big thing. Interesting video!
